To move an application to an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, verify the entire request contract before changing production traffic. The base URL, credential, model identifier, API family, response shape and required features must agree. Compatibility can reduce integration work, but it is not a guarantee that every model accepts every parameter or behaves identically.
Write down what your application actually uses
Identify whether you use chat completions, responses or a messages interface, and whether you expect streaming. List features that affect correctness: tool calls, images, structured output, conversation state and cancellation. Record the response fields your code reads.
Treat host, key and model as one configuration
A key belongs to the service that issued it. A Supesonic API key is not interchangeable with a credential from another provider. Keep the key on your application server. For a standard chat test, the full endpoint is https://api.supesonic.com/v1/chat/completions.
Verify access before spending time on the client
Open Quick Start and check the key's access. A public catalogue does not prove that your particular key can reach every listed model. Once access is clear, send a short request with a low output cap.
Roll out with a clear return path
Keep the previous connection configuration available until the new one meets your acceptance criteria. Move a small, observable portion of traffic first. Document the exact endpoint, model identifier, key owner and review date. See also what OpenAI-compatible means and AI API relays explained.
